What size should I buy..?
Newborn babies - 3kgs to 6kgs
A newborn baby should definately be fitted with the SMALL size Sleepy Wings, as their torso and arms are still little. They will have plenty of room to move and grow in this size (up til they are about 6kgs in weight).
6kg to 10kgs babies -
Babies who fit size 000 infant clothing are typically over 6 kilograms in weight and on average from 6 months of age and up, therefore the LARGE will fit best. If you are starting your baby in Sleepy Wings, and they are currently around 5kgs, we suggest that you could purchase the LARGE size so that you get longer use of wear.
10kg PLUS babies -
X Large is only suited to babies that are 10kgs plus.
A smaller baby wearing the X Large may be able to get their arms out through the opening as it will be too loose / too big for their body.
Sleepy Wings will stretch over time, growing with your baby!
For the Small and Large size, give them a good stretch when first trying them on your baby
Please choose your size carefully as due to hygiene reasons, once worn, exchanges are not possible
Babies that are strong enough to roll from their back to tummy and then onto their back again during supervised play, (usual from 4 to 6 months) and will try to wiggle themselves out of anything at this age. The ‘bolero’ style design of the Sleepy Wings jacket means that they won’t be able to get themselves out of Sleepy Wings! Even at 9 months old when my little girl Alannah would wake up and sit up wearing them, she couldn’t get them off!
My baby has started to roll. Should I continue to use Sleepy Wings?
If your baby has managed to roll in their sleep whilst wearing Sleepy WingsTM, the benefit of having their forearms in an ‘up’ position will give your baby a better chance to lift their head.
Your baby may roll during play time, but not during sleep. Monitor whether your baby does roll whilst sleeping to assess whether sleepy wings will be suited for use in their cot.
It is advised that wrapping/swaddling should be ceased when babies begin to roll in their sleep.
If regular rolling does occur whilst in the cot, we suggest you cease the use of Sleepy WingsTM for naps in the cot, and continue to use whilst safely buckled in car seat or pram whilst out and about!

Is Sleepy Wings safe?
Sleepy WingsTM is INPAA approved and has been designed with safe sleeping guidelines in mind.
When worn correctly, the bolero styled jacket design ensures that it can never cover a baby’s head or obstruct breathing. Sleepy WingsTM does not obstruct the chest, (unlike the method of muslin wrapping, when wrapped too tight, it may impede a baby’s breathing)
A baby’s natural sleep position is to have their arms bent at the elbows, with hands up beside their face so that they can access to their mouth to self console
As regularly taught by hospital midwives, we swaddle a baby with their arm up within the muslin. However muslin wriggling wrapped babies will find their way out of their wrap, which will wake them. This loose muslin wrap is then dangerous as it may creep up over their heads.
The flexibility and stretch that the quality cotton elastane in Sleepy WingsTMprovides, still allows a baby to stretch up, down, towards their face and out.
Always place a baby on their back to sleep!
If you still have reservations, please consult with your own pediatrician or doctor to confirm if Sleepy WingsTM is suitable for your use on your baby.

Will Sleepy Wings shrink in the wash?
Sleepy WingsTM has been designed with allowance for an approximate shrinkage of 5% after wash. However the fabrics 10% elastomeric provides optimum stretch and recovery
It is suggested that Sleepy Wings are not tumble dried, as the elastomeric properties of the fabric can break down over time with the heat. However the occassional ‘urgent’ tumble dry on a low heat should be okay.
My baby likes to suck on the sleepy wings? Is this hygenic?
Ensure you wash your Sleepy Wings daily to keep the fabric clean
The Organic Cotton/Elastane Sleepy Wings in the range may be a preferable option.

Why does it work better on dummies with handles?
The unique pocket design will hold a dummy with a handle much better than the brands of dummies that only have a knob end. This is because the dummy handle can anchor within the pocket Dummies with fixed handles that don’t bend will not work – for example the ‘Natursutten soothers’ – moulded dummies.
For a secure hold around the dummy handle and knob, tuck and position the fabric firmly around the base of the dummy.

From what age can a baby learn to retrieve their own dummy from the Sleepy Wings pockets?
From customer feedback over the past year, and personal experience, it is when a baby is around 12weeks old / 4 months old that they will try and learn to retrieval their dummy from the Sleepy Wings pockets. But of course every baby is different! Having the dummy in the pockets from birth will not only be handy for you to find, but it will also assure your baby that it is nearby.
I would love to hear more stories of newborns locating their dummy!

The dummies don’t hold in the pockets as my baby moves about too much. What can I do?
If your baby is a wrestler going off to sleep, you might find the dummy falls out due to their strength
TIP: Load the dummy pockets once your baby is asleep!!
*Ensure the fabric opening of the pockets is positioned to grip the handle for an improved secure hold
*Try other brands with thicker/bigger handles
As there are so many dummies available with different handle designs, there is no guarentee that all dummies will be suited. We have found HAPPY BABY DUMMIES the best on the market. http://www.happybaby.com.au/
When your baby starts to wake or stir due to ‘Startle reflex’ or the transition of sleep cycles, they usual wake to find that their dummy has fallen out
A baby will eventually learn to find their dummy with the slight head turn and movement of their arms towards their face
The two dummy pockets allow 2 chances for your baby to retrieve their own dummy!
My baby doesn’t like wearing Sleepy Wings
Sleepy WingsTM will not suit every baby or parents preference.
If your baby has never been swaddled or wrapped before, you may need to slowly introduce sleepy wings during day sleeps or milk feeds so they become accustomed and associate Sleepy Wings with their bed time.
If they look too small when first purchased (provided you have purchased the correct size for your baby), give them a good stretch at the opening.
For those who persevere beyond the initial tears, they may find that baby will start to become comfortable wearing Sleepy WingsTM as they start associating its wear for nap and feed time.
It may have just been a bad day for bub?
